Nothing Headphone (1) Review 2025: The Most Stylish AI-Powered Over-Ear Headphones?

In 2025, Nothing (the brand founded by Carl Pei) finally launched its first over-ear headphones – the Nothing Headphone (1). After the success of Ear (1), Ear (2), Ear (stick) and Phone (1)/(2), everyone was waiting for this moment. And they delivered something truly unique: fully transparent over-ear headphones with deep ChatGPT integration.

Design & Build Quality – Transparency Done Right

The first thing you notice is the iconic transparent design. Both earcups show the drivers, magnets, and even the battery – just like the Ear (1) did with earbuds. Available in classic white and black, the Headphone (1) weighs only 328 g, making it one of the lightest over-ear ANC headphones on the market.

Foldable hinges, premium matte plastic and soft protein leather earpads make them incredibly comfortable even after 4–5 hours of use. The headband pressure is perfectly balanced – no “headphone clamp” feeling.

How Is the Sound Quality?

Nothing partnered with Teenage Engineering again, and it shows.

  • 45 mm dynamic drivers
  • Frequency range 10 Hz – 40 kHz
  • Supports LHDC 5.0 and LDAC (Hi-Res audio)
  • Bass is punchy but controlled, mids are clear, treble is detailed without being harsh.

Compared to Sony WH-1000XM5 or Bose QC Ultra, the Nothing Headphone (1) sounds more fun and energetic – perfect for electronic, hip-hop and pop. Classical and jazz lovers might prefer a more neutral tuning, but the EQ in the Nothing X app (iOS & Android) lets you customize everything.

Active Noise Cancellation & Transparency Mode

ANC is surprisingly good – blocks low-frequency rumble (plane engines, subway) almost as well as Sony or Bose. High frequencies (voices) are reduced but not eliminated – typical for over-ear design.

Transparency mode is natural, almost AirPods Max level. You can have a quick conversation without removing the headphones.

ChatGPT Voice Integration – The Killer Feature

This is where Nothing beats everyone in 2025. Hold the left earcup and speak – ChatGPT answers directly in your ears (if you have the official ChatGPT app installed and are logged in). No need to take out the phone. It works even offline for basic commands thanks to on-device processing.

Perfect for walking, running or when you just don’t want to touch your phone.

Battery Life & Portability

  • 40 hours with ANC on
  • 57 hours with ANC off
  • 10 min charge = 10 hours playback

They fold completely flat and come with a soft carrying pouch (not hard case – small downside). Still extremely portable – fits easily in any backpack.

How Portable Are They Really?

Thanks to the foldable design and light weight, they are more portable than AirPods Max and almost as portable as Sony XM5. You can hang them on one finger (see photo) – perfect for commuters.

Final Verdict – Should You Buy Nothing Headphone (1)?

Yes – if you want:

  • Unique transparent look
  • Great sound with fun tuning
  • Deep ChatGPT integration
  • Excellent battery & comfort

Maybe not – if you want the absolute best ANC or completely neutral studio sound.

Score: 9.2 / 10 – Easily one of the coolest and most innovative headphones in 2025.
